Meet the Guides

George
He grew up fishing farm ponds in Kansas during family vacations and took up fly fishing in 1986. George spent 20 years bringing up today’s youth as an educator. His passion for teaching has carried over into his seven years of guiding. Developing confidence within his clients while instilling the value of ethics and etiquette are of importance while on the water. The contrast of desert and dense foliage along the rivers of New Mexico is one of George’s favorite aspects of the state. Though a teacher by nature, George remains a continuous student of the sport of fly fishing and the habitat in which fish live, “It’s a process, not a product,” he says.

Scott L.
At 12 years old, Scott received his first fly rod for Christmas and learned to fish the Cimarron with his grandfather. Many childhood memories were made in the region and the start of each guide season is like a homecoming. The beautiful landscapes, cultural diversity, unique environment and history of the region draws him back year after year. This will be Scott’s 11th season guiding in New Mexico. He is committed to ensuring each client has a good time and is a better angler at the end of each day. Winters are spent with a busy ski patrol team in Colorado, running 1500 calls per season along with daily training. This professional blueprint carries over into each guide season. “Snow turns to water, there is a deep spiritual connection for me,” says Scott.

Brian
Brian learned the art of fly fishing at the age of eight with his father and has been fishing since. Putting a client on their first fish and sharing the stoke ignites Brian’s passion for guiding. He spends most of his time in the Rio Grande Gorge as raft guide. The wild beauty of the fishery is something Brian takes deep pride in and looks forward to sharing with each client. Brian says, “Born to fish, forced to work.”

Scott T.
Scott has 25 years in the industry as a guide, targeting pike, pacific salmon, trout, steelhead, and halibut across the states of Alaska, New Mexico, and Washington. Not only is he an excellent guide, he is a great storyteller and quite the entertainer. There are no boring days on his boat. He is persistent and won’t quit until he has you hooked up with a fish. After many years in the Pacific North West, Scott is drawn to the warm sun of the New Mexico summer.

Kevin (Owner)
Kevin’s father started taking him fishing at the age of three and his first fish was caught at Eagle Nest Lake on a snoopy pole. The region holds many childhood memories for Kevin, owning and operating a shop here was a natural evolution. Sharing his passion with others in a relaxed environment through tailored instruction for each learning style is important to Kevin. This will be his 11th year guiding. “When I’m on the water with clients, it rarely feels like clients but more of a day fishing with friends,” says Kevin. If he’s not guiding, he is in the shop. When he has the opportunity to fish for himself, he can be found on remote and isolated stretches of New Mexico water.
